Same-Day Dental Implants: Teeth in a Day | WDC

A patient smiling after receiving same-day dental implants

Walking into the practice in the morning without teeth — or with teeth you've struggled with for years — and leaving the same afternoon with a fixed, working smile sounds almost too good to be true.

For the right patient, same-day dental implants genuinely deliver that. Here is how it works, who it suits, and what it doesn't mean.

What does "teeth in a day" actually mean?

Same-day implants — sometimes called immediate-load implants, All-on-4 or All-on-6 — use a small number of carefully positioned implants to support a full arch of fixed teeth. The temporary teeth are attached on the same day as the implants are placed.

A few months later, once the implants have fully integrated with the jawbone, the temporary teeth are swapped for a stronger, custom-made final bridge.

What a same-day appointment looks like

Morning

Final 3D scans, any remaining failing teeth are gently removed and your implants are placed under local anaesthetic (with sedation if you'd prefer).

Midday

A short break while our lab team finishes preparing your temporary bridge to fit your new implants.

Afternoon

Your fixed temporary teeth are fitted onto the implants. You leave the practice with a complete, working smile the same day.

Who is a good candidate?

Same-day implants suit a lot of people, but not everyone. We typically look for:

  • Patients missing most or all of the teeth in one or both jaws
  • People who are tired of loose or uncomfortable dentures
  • Patients with enough jawbone to support immediate-load implants (we confirm this with a CBCT scan)
  • Good general health and a commitment to looking after the new teeth

If same-day isn't the right fit, we'll explain why and talk through alternatives such as conventional implants or implant-supported dentures.

What "same day" doesn't mean

It is important to be honest: same-day implants do not mean the whole process is finished in one visit.

  • You'll still need consultation, scans and planning beforehand
  • The temporary teeth fitted on the day are deliberately a little softer in the bite
  • The final, full-strength bridge is fitted after healing — typically 3–6 months later

What it does mean is that you never go home without teeth.
